Despite having a broad inventory and strong pricing, Materials Market wasn’t fully capitalising on its digital presence. Key issues included:

  • Low mobile conversion: The mobile search functionality was underperforming — hard to find, clunky to use, and limiting product discovery.

  • Missed sales opportunities: Poor UX on mobile was directly affecting checkout completion and user satisfaction.

  • CRO gaps: Web traffic wasn’t translating into transactions efficiently.

The Solution

To fix friction in the buying journey and improve conversions, we redesigned the entire front-end experience — focusing on speed, clarity, and CRO-driven UX. The new UI was delivered as a custom front-end build, ready for seamless integration with the client’s Ruby on Rails platform.

Key improvements included:

  • Reimagined Mobile Search: We rebuilt the mobile search experience to support fast, accurate product discovery — unlocking a £134k revenue uplift in the first month post-launch.

  • Simplified Category Navigation: Grouped key product types with clear visual cues and filters, helping users locate and select materials with ease.

  • Conversion-Focused Homepage: Strategically placed trade credit CTAs, trust signals, bulk-buy offers and bestsellers to guide high-intent users and increase engagement — contributing to an add-to-basket rate increase from 7% to 9%.

  • Performance-First UX: Every layout was engineered for clarity, speed, and trust. Elements like testimonials, delivery badges, and simple UI patterns reduced friction and encouraged action.
